This weight loss surgery diet calls for three small meals and two snacks a day. So much as drinking a cup of water can make you feel full. This is why you should stop drinking 30 minutes before a meal. Protein is a major contributor to weight loss in this diet. Drinking protein shakes and eating lean meats are two ways to get in the necessary 60-80 grams a day. Your meals after sleeve gastrectomy surgery should contain low-calorie and high-fiber foods, vegetables and small portions of fruits. You should avoid breads, sugar, processed snacks and fried food.

Although it’s known to be the most complex of the three, it’s the most effective in contributing to weight loss results. It reduces calorie intake by making the stomach smaller and bypassing part of the small intestine. Eating five to six small portioned meals 30 minutes apart is recommended after surgery. Much like the sleeve gastrectomy diet, eating foods high in protein is essential. Consuming 80 to 100 grams of protein a day will help to see successful results. It’s important to avoid sugar, caffeine, gum, and other foods that lack the nutrients your body needs. Lean meats, fat-free dairy products, vegetables, fruits and whole grains are healthy ingredients compatible for a post duodenal switch surgery diet.

Although these surgeries share an end goal of losing weight, each surgery comes with different recovery times and lifestyle changes. That’s why it’s important to know how each procedure works and the effects it will have on your diet. It’s important to be mindful of what you’re eating, how much and how often as these factors can greatly determine the results of your surgery.
